Among the services MP CERT offers to the public is information about smartphone apps that may be of interest to you. CERT member Jack Nelson passed along this tip for about ICE Standard ER With Smart911 App.
You may already have heard about creating an entry in your mobile phone's address book listed as ICE (In Case of Emergency) which provides emergency personnel with the name(s) of people to be called in case you are incapacitated and unable to respond yourself. Rather than sorting through hundreds of names in your address book, ICE quickly identifies next of kin and friends. But what if your smartphone has a lock screen? Emergency personnel won't even be able to get to your contact list.
The ICE Standard ER With Smart911 App (available for iOS and Android) takes addresses this concern by allowing you to create a lock screen image with emergency information displayed on it. In addition to your name and contact information, you may optionally include blood type, medical conditions, medicines and medical devices, and other information that may help emergency responders render aid to you if you are unconscious.
You can also register with their website to register your information with the Smart 911 system which registers your phone and information with a national database available to emergency responders.
