CERT Distributes Flood Alert Flyers in EPA

Members of Menlo Park CERT program distributed approximately 800 flyers (in English and Spanish) containing flood preparedness information to neighborhoods in East Palo Alto, adjacent to San Francisquito Creek that are at risk for storm-related flooding. These area experienced flooding as recently as the winter of 2013 when a nearby dyke failed. A toll-free number has been set up for East Palo Alto residents to call to obtain recorded updates about flood conditions, 877-238-3030. To report a breach in the levee or other dangerous situation, call 911.

Text of the distributed flyers:

A major storm is heading to the area on Wednesday and Friday, December 10 and 11, 2014.
The possibility of flooding exists while the storm is going through these days.
We recommend that you prepare yourself for a potential flooding event.
Sandbags are available at the City’s Corporation Yard: 150 Tara Road (9:00 am-4:00 pm)
Monitor updates to the forecast: Radio: 1670 AM or Cable Channel 26
Prepare to evacuate upon request by authorities.
