Important Changes in Works for MPFPD CERT Program

posted Jul 8, 2016, 2:52 PM by MPFPD Community Crisis Management   [ updated Jul 8, 2016, 2:52 PM ]

The Menlo Park Fire Protection Fire District recently issued a new charter to CERT enabling it to form its own organization under the District’s sponsorship. This change is designed to enable CERT to operate with greater independence. CERT members will assume more responsibility for managing and operating CERT. A copy of the new MPFPD CERT Charter may be found at www.menlofirecert.com/board

To help the organization get started, the District appointed a Temporary CERT Board to propose Bylaws for the new CERT organization and to hold elections. (Bylaws are the basic rules that an organization use to make decisions and manage itself.) The proposed Bylaws are ready to be placed before CERT members for approval. A copy of the proposed bylaws may be found at www.menlofirecert.com/board

All CERT members are invited to attend an informational meeting to discuss the proposed bylaws on TUESDAY, AUGUST 9, 7PM, at STATION 1, 300 MIDDLEFIELD RD, MENLO PARK in the CLASSROOM (off the parking lot in the rear of the fire station). Members of the Temporary Board and the Fire District will be on hand to answer any questions or respond to comments you may have about the Bylaws.

Following this meeting, a ballot will be mailed to all CERT members asking them to approve the Bylaws. A yes vote by a majority of the returned ballots is necessary for the bylaws to be approved. If the bylaws are approved, the next step will be to open nominations for electing a Board.
