The food was awesome and abundant through the evening with the Italian Fountain splashing in the background as we visited with each other and with MPFPD Fire Chief Harold Schapelhouman. Approximately 46 neighbors with 2 children came together to enjoy meeting each other and learning from Chief Schapelhouman as he shared his thoughts about what to expect and how to respond in the event of a local or area wide disaster. He was in charge of the California FEMA Urban Search & Rescue contingent responding to the World Trade Bombing, as well as the swift water rescue during the Hurricane Katrina disaster, the Oklahoma City Bombing and more. He is well versed in the matter of disaster preparedness and recovery. The Menlo Fire Department is part of a National Disaster Response Team and has extra disaster training as a result.
Many thanks to Richard and Susan Warren for opening their home for all to enjoy. Among the guests were many from beyond the Selby Stockbridge Neighborhood Group but within CERT Neighborhood Area 10 and Area 11 which together span from Atherton Ave. to Selby Lane and El Camino Real. Susan and Richard are the Coordinators for Area 10 which runs from El Camino Real to Austin Ave and from Atherton Ave to Selby Lane. If anyone is interested in assisting within their respective neighborhood areas please let me know and I will forward your name and contact information on to the coordinators for the neighborhood area in which you live.
